Ramakrishnan program chair for ICDM'07 |

Naren Ramakrishnan, associate professor of computer science, served as the program chair for ICDM'07, the IEEE International Conference on Data Mining, held last week (Oct 28-31) in Omaha, Nebraska. His co-chair was Osmar Zaiane of the University of Alberta, Canada. The conference location enabled partnership by representatives from the banking, insurance, and telecommunication industries.
 The IEEE International Conference on Data Mining series (ICDM) has established itself as the world's premier research conference in data mining. It provides an international forum for presentation of original research results, as well as exchange and dissemination of innovative, practical development experiences. It is held annually in different parts of the world, typicaly alternating between North America and Pacific Asia/Europe.
This year's conference featured a highly competitive program: only 7.5% (40) of the submissions were accepted as regular papers, after a double-blind reviewing process, making ICDM 2007 the most competitive of ICDM conferences. Another 61 submissions of high quality were accepted as short papers, giving an overall acceptance rate of 19.1%. The program also featured 3 keynote talks, 4 tutorials, 11 workshops, the ICDM data mining contest, and a panel on "How long can one company dominate web search?"
Besides Ramakrishnan, computer science professors Chang-Tien Lu and T.M. Murali also participated as program committee members. Lu, in addition, co-chaired the workshop on spatial and spatio-temporal data mining. |
