Active ImageDr. Manuel A. Perez-Quinones will participate as a panelist in the NSF-funded Academic Workshops for Underrepresented Faculty and Senior Graduate Students, scheduled for 11/30/07 – 12/2/07 in College Station, Texas, home of Texas A&M.

The academic workshops provide unique, tailored experiences for underrepresented junior faculty, including discussions and panels on requirements for tenure and grant proposal writing, and a special Leadership Panel that features nationally prominent minority leaders who share their experiences.  

There are a total of 34 confirmed participants, selected from 51 applicants.  The workshop is organized by the Coalition to Diversify Computing (CDC), a group of computing professionals seeking to address the lack of diversity in the computing professoriate.  CDC is trying to address this shortfall through the development of a diverse community of professionals that can effectively meet the computing demands of an evolving society. CDC projects target students and faculty with  
the expressed intent of increasing the number of minorities successfully transitioning into computing-based careers in academia, federal laboratories and industry.
