Active ImageThe Association for Women in Computing (AWC) is starting off another great year with style. Impressive numbers could be seen attending their kick-off interest meeting held Tuesday, August 28. Not even the torrential rain could keep many new and familiar faces away from delicious ice cream sundaes, a fun getting-to-know-you game, and a crash-course on AWC objectives and activities. This year's meeting has filled members with hope to continue to improve and expand their yearly outreach programs.

At the recent CS Picnic the AWC ladies could be seen sporting beautiful pink t-shirts with the appropriate Laurel Thatcher Ulrich quote, "Well-behaved women rarely make history." The Grace Hopper conference covers upcoming computing technology, advice on being successful in the field of technology, and opportunities to meet and network with other IT women.  Three AWC members, Stacy Branham, Jessica Whitley, and Amrita Pati also received additional funding through a competitive scholarship application.

Last, Evergrid has pledged $1500 to wards this effort. On top of their efforts to continuously raise funds with the on going bake sale and pancake breakfasts, this year is as hopeful as ever to continue to expand their support through trips like this one to Grace Hopper and possibly offering a book scholarship to AWC members.
