CS Minor for CpE Majors PDF Print E-mail

Computer Engineers who wish to minor in Computer Science must complete their first Computer Science course, CS 2605 (2704), before applying to minor in Computer Science.

The following substitutions will be made after the application to minor in Computer Science has been approved:

Required Course Approved Substitution
CS 2204 ECE 2984/2524 Intro to Unix for Engineers
Required Sequence Approved Substitution*
CS 1705/1706/2605 ECE 1574/2574/3574
CS 2704/2604 CS 2605/2606

*Students must complete a given sequence to be eligible for substitutions. Students cannot mix and match sequences.

All CS majors and minors (including CpE majors minoring in CS) must earn a C (2.0) or better in all CS courses used as prerequisites or co-requisites for other Computer Science courses. This rule also holds for ECE/ECPE courses substituted for CS courses. There are no exceptions to this requirement and therefore there is no appeal process.

Only those CpE students will be signed in as CS minors who:

1) at the time of application meet all requirements of the minor to that point, i.e., have >= C (2.0) in all CS courses (or ECE/ECPE courses to be substituted for CS courses) which are prerequisites for other CS courses, and,

2) have a 2.0 CS minor GPA which includes all attempts of CS courses (and ECE/ECPE courses that are used to substitute for CS courses), and,

3) have successfully completed a CS course in the sequence of courses required for the minor, CS 1705, 1706, 2605 or 2606.  (For example, a student using ECE 1574, 2574, and 3574 to substitute for CS 1705, 1706, and 2605, needs to have completed CS 2606 with a grade of "C" or better before applying for the CS minor.)
