Seminar Series - Research at the Nexus of Engineering, Science, Art, and Design

Speaker: Dr. Ben Knapp, Director ICAT, Virginia Tech
Date: Friday, October 5, 2012
Time: 11:15am-12:30pm
Location: 2150 Torgersen

In this talk I will discuss the newest of Virginia Tech's research institutes, The Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT), and the possibilities for collaboration with faculty and students from Computer Science. I will then present a brief overview of my own research on the relationship between human physiology and emotion. This research ranges from developing new physiological sensors to creating new human-computer interfaces. As part of this research, my team has created the world's largest database of emotional response to music. Physiological and self-report data have been collected from over 14,000 subjects in countries including Ireland (Belfast and Dublin), Italy, Singapore, Norway, and the US.
