Phi Beta Kappa was founded at The College of William and Mary in 1776, and recognizes undergraduate excellence in liberal arts and sciences. Seniors inducted into Phi Beta Kappa are in the top 10% of their graduating class and have earned an overall GPA of at least 3.8. Professor Chris Barrett, NDSSL Director, is the lead on this project which applies high-performance computing-based decision and policy informatics to simulate and study pandemics and other catastrophic events, natural or man-made. ICPP is the oldest academic conference in the field of parallel processing and remains a premier venue for researchers in academia, government, and industry to present the latest research findings in any area of parallel or distributed computing. This year the conference will be held in Portland, OR between September 8 and September 12, 2008. Our department is proud to have Morgan Harris, CS student and one of last semester’s Scholars of the Future, in the softball team. “It was unbelievable winning against the players you grow up watching on TV but thankfully they still let us all get their autographs after the game,” Harris said.
