Ph.D. Qualifying Examinations for 2013-2014 have been announced. This exam is one of the two ways to score points for the "excellence in depth" component of the Ph.D. qualifying process. Based on student interest, the faculty offer exams in several areas for this academic season. Please register with the chairperson of your exam area as soon as possible. Good luck to everybody!

VTCS news imageACM Programming Team advances to ICPC World Finals - 06 December 2013

On Nov 2, the ACM Programming Team participated in the 2013 Regional Qualifier for the ACM Intercollegiate Programming Competition (ICPC) along with 192 teams from universities and colleges across the Midatlantic region. Virginia Tech's top team placed 2nd.  On December 6, 2013, they were selected for a wildcard slot to participate in the 38th ICPC World Finals to be held in Ekaterinburg, Russia in June 2014.

On November 19, 2013, students in the sophomore seminar class presented "cool topics" to CS student ambassadors, advisors, faculty, and each other.  As part of the sophomore seminar, students are assigned to a group which will decide on a "cool topic" to present towards the later part of the semester.
