 A Word from the Department Head The
maxim that you can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep
is as true for organizations as it is for individuals. The Department
of Computer Science is very grateful to the talented and active people
who keep company with us through their generous voluntary service on
our Strategic Advisory Council. Through its twice-yearly meetings and
other informal contacts, this body provides strategic advice and
guidance to the department, raises questions for us to consider, poses
challenges that lead us to new insights, and serves as a sounding board
for new initiatives.
The individuals on the council bring a
variety of perspectives to their service. Some members are alumni of
the department and are aware of our history and traditions while others
bring valuable new viewpoints. The members are academic leaders,
technology innovators, entrepreneurs, and directors of research and
development. While their backgrounds and experiences are varied, they
have in common careers that are marked by success and accomplishment.
On
behalf of the faculty and students in Computer Science, I would like to
express our appreciation to all of the members of the Council for their
contributions to our continued progress.
