Scholarships for Undergraduate Computer Science Majors The Department of Computer Science is proud to offer scholarships for its majors. You will find a listing below of scholarships available for the 2008/9 academic year. Endowed scholarships are awarded each year. Company scholarships are offered as they are available. To be eligible for these scholarships, students must be a rising sophomore, junior or senior and have CS as your declared major. Endowed Scholarships Investment in Excellence Scholarships Investment in Excellence Scholarships are made from our general scholarship fund. Students must meet the criteria established by the College of Engineering. Students will be selected based on academic excellence and financial need. College of Engineering Application CGI Computer Science Scholarship CGI
employees were deeply moved by the tragedy of April 16, 2007, and
created this scholarship in memory of everyone impacted by the events
of that day. Additionally, CGI is interested in encouraging students
to attend Virginia Tech by helping the College of Engineering recruit
and retain highly talented students interested in the field of Computer
Science. Recipients of this scholarship will be rising juniors or
seniors. First preference shall be given to student based on academic
merit, with further preference based on demonstrated leadership skills
and community service, financial need, and an interest in an optional
summer internship with CGI. College of Engineering Application Anne and George Gorsline Memorial Scholarship This
scholarship is named in honor of Mrs. Anne Gorsline and in memory of
her husband, Dr. George Gorsline. This scholarship was established to
encourage female students to continue their pursuit of the Computer
Science Degree. This scholarship is available to any female
undergraduate above the freshman level, in good academic standing; with
a declared major of Computer Science and sufficient course completion
to support that declaration. College of Engineering Application George Gorsline Memorial Scholarship George Gorsline served as this department’s first head. Affectionately known as Dr. G to his students, George was a champion of the "underdogs," those students who faced unique challenges, but who persevered and overcame obstacles to complete a degree in Computer Science. When Dr. Gorsline passed away in 1987, a number of grateful alumni established the George Gorsline Memorial Scholarship. True to George's spirit, this scholarship is given each year to rising seniors who have shown significant improvement in his or her grade point average from freshman year through junior year, and who have overcome obstacles to become successful CS majors.

Griffith-Strader Christian Scholarship This endowed scholarship was created to provide scholarship support for CS students in the College of Engineering. To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be a rising sophomore majoring in Computer Science. Preference will be given to a student who meets the above criteria and is an alumnus of Brookville High School in Lynchburg, Virginia. If no student from Brookville High School is eligible for this scholarship, second preference will be given to an undergraduate student from rural Virginia. College of Engineering Application
Company Scholarships Eastman Computer Science Merit Scholarship The Eastman CS Merit Scholarship is awarded to a rising junior and is renewable for four academic semesters provided the scholar maintains his/her current GPA and full-time student status. The Eastman scholar must be in the top 25% of his/her class and be African American, Hispanic, Asian American, Native American, or a student of any race who is economically or socially disadvantaged. Scholars will be required to work an internship for Eastman prior to their graduation, if positions are offered. Candidates for the scholarship will be interviewed by representatives from Eastman. College of Engineering Application SWIFT Scholarship SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) provides a scholarship to a rising senior, with a 3.0 overall GPA, who is also involved in extra-curricular and leadership activities. College of Engineering Application Lockheed Martin Scholarships Lockheed Martin has provided scholarship support and book scholarships for the 2008/9 academic year. Students must have at least a 2.8 overall GPA and submit the College of Engineering's scholarship application to be considered for this award. College of Engineering Application
