Kevin R. Niewoehner
President & CEO
Institute for Scientific Research, Inc.
Kevin R. Niewoehner is president and chief executive officer of the
Institute for the Scientific Research, Inc. in Fairmont, West Virginia.
Niewoehner attended West Virginia University, where he earned a
bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He showed his
leadership qualities early by being elected president of WVU's student
branch of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. In
1981, he went from school to the aerospace industry, where he worked as
an electrical engineer for E-Systems in Falls Church, Virginia. There,
he designed and developed various systems for remotely piloted
vehicles, as well as for small phased array antennas. Niewoehner's
career quickly advanced at the System Planning Corporation, where he
was named principal research engineer at a young age. In this position,
he continued his career as the lead engineer on several multi-band
radar system deployments. He was soon named principal engineer at
another company - only to move on rapidly to Ford Aerospace, where his
talents as a strategist and manager began to emerge.
In 1990, Niewoehner joined NASA at its Washington, D.C.
headquarters. For almost a decade, he steadily rose through the space
agency ranks, receiving several awards, culminating with NASA's
prestigious Exceptional Service Medal. He also earned an MBA with
honors from George Mason University while at NASA. Niewoehner put his
NASA career on hold in early 1999, however, to take on the
unprecedented challenge to build and run the Institute for Scientific
Research, Inc.
As ISR's president and chief executive officer, he is a member of
and reports to a dynamic and powerful board of directors, while
directing the daily operations of a growing staff of scientists,
engineers, mathematicians and support staff.
Niewoehner is married to the former Patti Zacharias of St. Clair,
Michigan. The couple has one son, Zachary, who is five years old. They
reside in Fairmont, West Virginia.
