Grants
The main metrics we use to measure the health of our research funding are total funding of research in the department and research expenditures per tenure-track faculty member. Longitudinal views of these metrics are shown in the charts below; they show the effects of a cohort of junior faculty hired in the early 2000's attaining tenure and increased research visibility and activity. The funding typically comes from a variety of external sources; in FY2012 these were: NSF (56%), NIH (10%), defense (7%), other federal (19%), corporate (7%), state (1%).
